Putin announced a meeting of BRICS energy ministers on the margins of REN


BRICS energy ministers will meet on the margins of the VII International Forum "Russian Energy Week" (REN). This was announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his greeting to the participants and guests of the event on September 23.
"I would like to emphasize that on the margins of the forum there will be a meeting of BRICS energy ministers, which will be one of the key events of the year of Russia's presidency in this association," the Kremlin press service quoted him as saying.
The President emphasized that during the talks it is necessary to agree on common principles of a fair energy transition for the member states of the association, as well as to outline ways to strengthen the role of BRICS in the global dialogue.
Putin noted the importance and relevance of the theme of the forum. According to him, in the current realities, cooperation in this area will strengthen the economies of the countries, help solve social problems and improve the quality of life of citizens.
The forum will be held on September 26-28, 2024 in Moscow.
On September 12, the Russian president said that 34 countries have already expressed their desire to join the BRICS community in one form or another. He noted that a meeting has already been held with the participation of colleagues from countries that are not yet members of BRICS, but sincerely seek to work more closely with the association.
BRICS is an interstate association of countries. The last summit at the level of its heads of state was held in Johannesburg in August 2023. Following its results, the BRICS members decided on a historic expansion. On January 1, 2024, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa were joined by Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia and the UAE. Russia will chair the organization in 2024.
