Macron urged Europe to rethink future ties with Russia

Europe will have to rethink its relations with Russia at some point in the future. French President Emmanuel Macron said at an international peace conference at the Palais des Congrès in Paris on Sunday, September 22.
"We are trying to develop the European political community, but we will need to think about a new form of European organization and then rethink our ties with Russia, [thinking] about peace on this [European] continent," Macron said, whose speech was broadcast on the Elysee Palace's page on the social network X (former Twitter). His words are quoted by TASS.
He added that the countries of Europe and the world should focus on "building a new world order." As the head of state noted, it is about "climate and technological revolution".
Macron expressed confidence in the need for more active participation of "populous countries that did not yet exist when the current world order was formed" in international organizations. He said he intends to raise the issue in his speech at the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
Last December, Macron had already declared his readiness to resume bilateral dialog with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He pointed out that their contacts with Putin continued for some time after the conflict in Ukraine began in February 2022.
