Ukrainian journalist calls Kiev's rejection of Crimea necessary for peace

Ukrainian journalist Ostap Drozdov has said that Ukraine 's renunciation of Crimea is necessary to end the conflict. This was reported byGazeta.Ruon September 22 with reference to the Ukrainian TV channel NTA.
"All that we heard from Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Crimea, we will hear it from everyone and everywhere, because the world's vision of the way out of the conflict is based on the formula "minus Crimea"," he said.
On September 19, at the YES meeting in Kiev, Sikorski suggested that Crimea be placed under the UN mandate to hold a referendum on its status in 20 years. He later retracted his words and called it a hypothetical discussion.
On September 20, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Poland's idea of transferring Crimea under the UN mandate absurd. He noted that the transfer of Russian territories and regions cannot be the subject of discussions.
The next day, the head of the Crimean Interethnic Mission Zaur Smirnov said that the point in the issue of the status of the Crimean peninsula was set in 2014, calling the topic permanently closed.
In February, Russian President Vladimir Putin called Crimea and Sevastopol an integral part of Russia. According to Putin, the history of Crimea is inseparable from the history of the Russian Federation, and the republic's lands are home to many spiritual and military shrines of the Russian people, as well as archaeological and cultural monuments. The President also noted that Crimea and Sevastopol make a huge contribution to the unity and security of Russia, and are developing dynamically in various spheres.
Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the peninsula's residents voted in favor of reunification with the Russian Federation. Kiev refuses to recognize the results of the vote and considers Crimea its own territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the residents of Crimea voted democratically and in full compliance with international law in favor of reunification, and the question of the peninsula's belonging to the Russian Federation is finally closed.
