A team of schoolchildren from Russia has won six gold medals at the Open International Astronomy Olympiad, which was held at the federal territory "Sirius" on September 15-22. This is reported on the website of the Russian government on September 22.

"We thank the winners for their perseverance and pursuit of knowledge, and their parents, teachers and mentors for their support and strong knowledge," said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

He noted that this is the third annual international astronomy Olympiad, and Russian schoolchildren have won medals at it every time. Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the young winners show the world the great abilities and capabilities of schoolchildren from Russia.

The team of six children from Moscow and the Moscow region was presented with medals by the head of the Ministry of Education of Russia Sergey Kravtsov. He wished the winners to continue their path in science and achieve new achievements, because the world now needs research in the field of astronomy.

Teams from 20 countries, including Belarus, Peru, Qatar, Ethiopia and Bulgaria, took part in the Olympiad. There were four rounds in the Olympiad - theoretical, practical, observational and test rounds. Children solved problems on knowledge of the starry sky, analyzed scientific material and made various calculations and forecasts. In addition, they had an opportunity to get acquainted with famous scientists and cosmonauts.

Earlier, on September 7, Russian schoolchildren won four gold medals at the 36th International Olympiad in Informatics, held in Egypt. Their rivals were participants from 94 countries of the world. Congratulating the winners, Chernyshenko called their result impressive.
