In the Republic of South Africa (RSA) there was a heavy snowfall that paralyzed traffic on the country's roads. Images of unusual for the region natural phenomenon appeared in the network on Sunday, September 22.

According to France 24, snowfalls are observed in the southern and southwestern regions of the country. The height of the cover in some areas reached 2 meters. Bad weather has been assigned the eighth level of complexity.

"Blankets and food have been delivered to some stranded motorists," the publication said.

According to SABC News TV station, heavy rainfall has caused traffic to be blocked on the roads. Rescue efforts are underway at the moment. The army has also been deployed to assist in disaster relief.

The last time snow fell in South Africa in July 2023. Before that, residents saw it in 2012 and 2006. Precipitation was observed in the southern Johannesburg neighborhood of Soweto and the northern suburb of Sandton, as well as in the nearby towns of Carletonville and Westonaria.
