A police pursuit in New York ended with the death of the driver, seven police officers and one civilian were injured and taken to hospitals for treatment. This was reported by the Associated Press on September 21, citing a police statement.
According to Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, the chase began after NYPD officers attempted to stop the driver in Queens County. He crashed into two police cars and caused two officers to jump out of the way.
"He jumped into the oncoming lane of traffic, rammed a police car, crashed into civilian vehicles and lost control of his own vehicle," Ryder said.
It is reported that after the chase, officers tried to force the driver to get out of the car, but he refused, as a result of which law enforcement officers opened fire on him.
The piece informs that five police officers from Nassau County and two from New York were taken to hospitals, as was the driver of the civilian car. One officer was hit, two were hurt while jumping back to safety, and three were taken for treatment of injuries after the shooting.
