Kyrgyz Chess Federation advocates lifting sanctions on Russians
President of the Kyrgyz Chess Federation Babur Tolbaev on Saturday, September 21, advocated the reinstatement of athletes from Russia at international tournaments.
According to him, the return of Russians to tournaments is the right decision. In addition, he noted that sports should be out of politics.
"If it were any other country - Moldova, Mongolia - I would also advocate the same, because it is the right thing to do. There are so many conflicts in the world, but the countries involved are not penalized in any way. There should be no double standards - it's just a violation of ethics," Tolbaev told TASS.
FIDE on June 7 stripped the Russian Chess Federation (RCF) of its membership in the organization for two years. This decision was taken after the Ukrainian Chess Federation complained that new regions of the Russian Federation had been admitted to the FSHR. The verdict of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) comes into force 60 days after the verdict.
The next day, the international federation released a statement explaining that the two-year exclusion of the FSR does not affect the rights of players, referees, coaches and clubs that are members of the Russian chess organization. Athletes from the Russian Federation will be able to participate in competitions. At the same time, FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich was punished by the international organization with a reprimand.
On September 13, it became known that the decision to revoke the membership of the FSHR was overturned by the appeal chamber of the FIDE Ethics and Discipline Commission.
