Media learned about the transfer of US forces to Alaska


TheUnited States has sent the destroyer Sterret and an army unit with long-range missiles to Alaska because of the activity of Russia and China in the region. This was reported by Politico newspaper on September 20.
According to it, the U.S. Army has been increasing its presence in the vicinity of Alaska over the past month. The destroyer USS Sterret is off its coast, and missile forces have landed on a remote island. In addition, squadrons of fighter jets and other aircraft that are based in Alaska have been put on alert.
According to Politico, such steps by Washington are a response to Russian and Chinese activity in the region. The publication quotes representatives of the U.S. leadership, noting that the U.S. continues to work closely with NATO to obtain intelligence on the actions of the Russian Federation in the vicinity of Alaska.
Earlier, on September 15, two Tu-95MS strategic missile carriers flew over the neutral waters of the Chukchi Sea as part of the Ocean-2024 strategic command and staff exercise. During this exercise, training questions were practiced on air strikes by air-launched cruise missiles against critical facilities of the conditional enemy. The missile carriers were escorted by Su-35S and Su-30SM fighters of the Russian Air and Space Forces.
On September 16, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said that the Pentagon sees no threat in the Russian exercises near Alaska and does not register a sharp increase in the activity of the Russian army. According to Singh, Washington is monitoring the Ocean-2024 exercises.
The Ocean-2024 strategic command-and-staff exercise is being held under the overall leadership of Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, Commander-in-Chief of the Navy. The readiness of the personnel was tested until September 16 inclusive in the waters of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic Seas.
