On September 20, Israel launched a strike on the Lebanese capital. It was noted that the strike was targeted. According to media reports, the goal of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) was the elimination of the commander of the Shiite movement "Hezbollah" Ibrahim Akil. It is specified that he is a member of the Jihad Council, Hezbollah's top military body.
The day before, the IDF said that the Israeli military carried out a series of attacks on Hezbollah facilities in Lebanon. 100 launchers and facilities of the Shiite movement came under attack. Before this, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant indicated that the country was shifting forces to the northern front as a new phase of the war began.
On Tuesday, September 17, numerous people were seriously injured in pager explosions in Beirut and southern Lebanon. The next day, various wireless devices exploded in cars and on motorcycles. These were portable radios, which were different from pagers. In just two days, more than 4,000 people were affected and more than 30 of them were killed. One of the dead was the son of Lebanese parliament member Ali Ammar. The Lebanese authorities and representatives of Hezbollah blamed Israel for the bombings.
The situation in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7, 2023, when the Palestinian radical movement Hamas subjected the territory of Israel to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip, as well as invaded the border areas in the south of the country and took hostages. On the same day, Israel began retaliatory strikes.
