State Duma deputy announces indexation of pensions for servicemen

Pensions to military personnel will be indexed on October 1. This was reported on September 21 by Lenta.Ru member of the Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Svetlana Bessarab.

"The nearest indexation is the indexation of pensions to military personnel, pensioners of the so-called power structures. It will take place on October 1 this year, and pensions will increase by 5.1%," Bessarab said.

She added that the increase would amount to about Br600-650, and after the indexation, the average size of the military pension will reach about Br42 thousand.

On the eve, September 20, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Boris Chernyshov said that a bill proposing to annually pay the 13th pension would be introduced by the end of the year. The vice-speaker pointed out that amendments to this initiative would affect the amount of the pre-New Year's payment, which should be the same for all Russians, as opposed to the size of the pension, which depends on a number of parameters for each person.

Tatyana Podolskaya, head of the department of international economic relations at the South Russian Institute of Management of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, citing Rosstat data, said on August 4 that the average pension in Russia as of April 1 was 20,941 rubles. Podolskaya added that 81.31% of Russian pensioners are elderly.

On July 8, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on resuming pension indexation for working pensioners from 2025. Thus, from the beginning of the next year, this category of citizens will receive an insurance pension and a fixed payment to it (taking into account the increase in the fixed payment to the insurance pension) in the amount set on December 31, 2024, plus the sum of their indexations carried out after this date.
