Defense Ministry declassified archive documents on the liberation of Tallinn


On the eve of the 80th anniversary of Tallinn's liberation from Nazi invaders, the Russian Defense Ministry declassified some of the archival documents from that period as part of the historical section "Liberated Tallinn drowned in flowers" on Saturday, September 21. The text of the documents is given in the department's Telegram channel.
The report of the political department of the Leningrad Front dated September 27, 1944 was made public. It talks about the meeting of Russian soldiers-liberators by the inhabitants of Tallinn.
"The citizens of Tallinn greeted the liberators with gratitude. The inhabitants of Tallinn threw flowers at the Soviet soldiers who passed through the streets, kissed them, because it really was liberation from occupation," the report says.
The documents note the feats of individual people who contributed to the victories of the Red Army. Thus, mentioned Captain 1st Rank Fyodor Yakovlev, who led the demining of buildings, in which the Nazis during the retreat laid explosives.
Also among the documents are directives of the Supreme Command, certificates of the enemy's actions, intelligence reports, award documents of the participants of the operation to liberate the city, as well as evidence of Nazi actions.
The capital of the Estonian SSR was liberated from German occupation on September 22, 1944 during the Baltic strategic offensive operation by troops of the Leningrad Front under the command of Marshal of the Soviet Union Leonid Govorov.
Earlier, on September 13, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation declassified archive documents, from which it follows that the Japanese attack on the Soviet Union from the eastern part of the country was part of a possible plan to start a war with the USSR with the involvement of Japan.
Prior to that, on September 7, specialists of the Russian Federal Security Service Department in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR) declassified and handed over to the Donetsk Museum of the Great Patriotic War the documents on the case of the victims of the German fascist occupants at the mine No. 4/4-bis of the city of Stalino in 1941-1943. The archived criminal cases were handed over on the eve of Donbass Liberation Day, at the monument "To Your Liberators, Donbass".
