The History of Trade Worker's Day in Russia

The roots of this holiday go back to the times of the Soviet Union, and its date has changed several times. Initially, in 1966, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, the fourth Sunday of July was chosen as Trade Worker's Day.

In 1988, it was decided to move this date to the third Sunday in March, combining it with the Day of Employees of Housing and Communal Services and Public Services.

In 2013, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, representatives of these industries were "returned" to their own holidays. As a result, for 11 years in our country, Trade Worker's Day has been celebrated on the fourth Saturday of July.

The purpose of this professional holiday is to highlight the significant contribution of trade industry workers to the development of the Russian economy. The celebration of Trade Worker's Day is becoming more widespread every year. It runs throughout the country from megacities to small villages and towns.
