- Happy Ascension of the Lord: beautiful postcards and pictures, greetings in prose

At the end of May, Orthodox believers celebrate the Ascension of the Lord, one of the 12 most important holidays of the church calendar. It was established in memory of the last earthly meeting of Jesus Christ with the apostles. Izvestia has prepared beautiful postcards and warm greetings for this significant day.
Ascension of the Lord 2025: postcards and pictures
The Ascension of the Lord is a two—day holiday with a floating date. It is celebrated annually on the 40th day after Easter. In 2025, the celebration falls on May 29.
The events of the Ascension are described in the Gospels of Luke and Mark, as well as in the Acts of the Holy Apostles. According to legend, after the Resurrection, Jesus appeared to his closest disciples more than once to strengthen their faith and prepare them for the impending separation.
At the same time, the Savior was next to the apostles in the flesh — he could be touched. For example, Thomas, popularly called an unbeliever, put his hand on his teacher's wounds to make sure that he had really risen.
Finally, on the 40th day after the Resurrection, Jesus told his disciples to pack up and follow him to the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem. There, the Son of God blessed the apostles for the last time and, raising his hands to heaven, began to move away from them, rising higher and higher into the sky.
When the Savior disappeared into the clouds, "two men in white clothes" appeared to those gathered on the mountain, who announced the Second Coming. Overjoyed by this news, the apostles returned to Jerusalem to deliver it to all the inhabitants of the city.
Already in the first and second centuries, the Ascension was perceived by the Christian Church as one of the most important events in the life of Christ. At the same time, as a separate celebration, it began to be celebrated only at the end of the IV century. Before that, it was celebrated together with Pentecost (Trinity) on the 50th day after Easter.
Despite the fact that Ascension contains memories of the separation of the apostles from the Savior, the holiday itself does not carry sadness and regrets. The fact is that from a theological point of view, Jesus did not leave people — he simply moved from a visible physical incarnation to an invisible sojourn in the world through the Holy Spirit.
Moreover, Ascension symbolizes the final reunion of human nature with the divine. Having risen in the flesh, Christ returned to heaven, opening the way to salvation for people. Therefore, on the holiday, believers rejoice at the victory over death, which was proclaimed by the Son of God.
On the eve of Ascension, the church celebrates the giving of Easter. In the morning, Easter hymns are sung in churches for the last time, and prayers and hymns dedicated to the Ascension of Christ are already being sung at the evening service. A festive liturgy is served in the morning.
Believers are advised to visit the temple on the holiday, If this is not possible, they can pray at the home iconostasis. You can celebrate Ascension with a small feast with family and close friends. There is no fast on this day, so any dishes are allowed on the table. Nevertheless, the clergy advise to refrain from overeating and drinking strong alcohol.
Conflicts, quarrels and swearing should also be avoided during the celebration, as they contradict the spirit of the holiday. Doing household chores and work on Ascension Day is not prohibited, but daily chores should not take the spiritual component of the holiday into the background. But the wedding will have to be postponed to another date, since on the eve of the fast days — Wednesday and Friday — this sacrament is not performed, and on the days of the twelve feasts it is undesirable.
