Summer is a special time for many people. Schoolchildren and students are waiting for long vacations, adults are dreaming of a vacation and a sandy beach on the seashore. In Russia, the first day of summer is marked by an important event — International Children's Day. Izvestia has prepared bright postcards and touching greetings for June 1.

The summer of 2025 has arrived: funny funny pictures

In a sense, summer can be called the children's time of the year. Students, freed from lessons, are happy to immerse themselves in their favorite activities: computer games, street soccer, walking with friends, riding scooters, bicycles. Younger children enjoy the opportunity not to go to kindergarten and spend time with older siblings. Many people are looking forward to summer trips to the sea, to camps, to the country.

In addition, on June 1, Russia and other countries celebrate one of the oldest international holidays — Children's Day. It is believed that the idea of this celebration originated back in 1857. Then the American pastor Charles Leonard held a special service dedicated to children on the second Sunday of June.

However, Children's Day received the status of an official holiday only in the middle of the 20th century. The decision to create it was made in 1949 at a special session of the International Democratic Federation of Women in Paris. The celebration of the new celebration began in 1950.

The international community thought about the need to create a special day dedicated to the protection of the fundamental rights of children when faced with the consequences of the Second World War. Millions of minors have lost their parents and homes due to the war. Many of them were forced to survive on the streets, stealing and begging to feed themselves. All this has brought "children's" issues onto the global agenda.

It is still unknown exactly why June 1 was chosen to celebrate Children's Day. There is a version that on the first day of summer 1925, the Consul General of China in the United States organized the Duan wu jie festival, a dragon boat festival, for Chinese orphans transported to San Francisco. The colorful event attracted everyone's attention, and then for the first time proposals were made to create a children's holiday. This event coincided with the holding of the first International Conference on Children's Issues in Geneva, which also influenced the choice of the date of the celebration.

In some countries, Children's Day is celebrated on November 20 in memory of the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child in 1959. This document became the basis for one of the most widely ratified treaties in history, the Convention on the Rights of the Child of 1989. Russia recognized it in 1993.

Happy beginning of summer: greetings in prose

Children's Day is celebrated in more than six dozen countries around the world. This celebration even has its own symbol — five multicolored figures standing on the globe icon are depicted on a green background. He represents children from different parts of the world living in peace and harmony on the same planet.

On this day, a variety of events are organized for kids and teenagers: concerts, sports, creative contests, exciting excursions and vivid flash mobs. Television channels are increasing the airtime for cartoons and children's programs. Volunteers do not stand aside either — they collect donations for orphanages and hospitals, visit orphanages and conduct free educational campaigns.

Despite the relaxed atmosphere, the main task of this day is to draw attention to the problems faced by children around the world: hunger, lack of education, diseases, lack of social benefits and other difficulties. Therefore, on June 1, meetings and round tables aimed at improving the living conditions of minors are held in many countries.

However, Children's Day is not the only reason for joy on June 1, because the onset of the long—awaited summer is also a kind of holiday. Here's how to congratulate him.:
