When and where to watch fireworks on May 9 in Moscow


Russia will celebrate the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War on May 9. Traditionally, the celebrations will end with a large fireworks display. Izvestia tells us where and at what time it can be viewed in Moscow.
When is the fireworks in Moscow on May 9, 2025
Traditionally, the observation locations are Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora, Luzhnetskaya Embankment near the Luzhniki Stadium and the MSU observation deck. Thousands of Muscovites and guests of the capital come here every year to admire the fireworks. However, in 2024, for security reasons, fireworks in Moscow and other cities were canceled altogether or the number of venues where you could enjoy the enchanting spectacle was reduced.
In 2025, there is no information yet that the Victory Day fireworks will be canceled. Traditionally, the final decision is made by the Ministry of Defense.
It is already known that the festive concert on Red Square on Victory Day was canceled for security reasons.
The fireworks will start at 22:00. The show usually lasts about 10 minutes.

The traditional sky show, during which fireworks soar into the air and fiery patterns bloom in the dark, invariably attracts the attention of thousands of viewers. The fireworks will be broadcast by many federal TV channels. You can also watch the show live on the Izvestia website.
The most convenient sites for full—time observation of fireworks are Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora, the observation deck of Moscow State University, Luzhnetskaya Embankment, and in 2024, the panoramic area of the Alley of Sports Glory of the Vorobyovy Gory complex opened for the first time for those wishing to see fireworks. The organizers of river transportation also offer to enjoy the beautiful view, offering excursions on motor ships to residents and guests of the capital.
Events in Moscow on May 9, 2025
Before going to the fireworks, residents and guests of the city can attend festive events in parks and museums. By May 9, over 250 different events are planned in the capital. In particular, rich programs are expected on the territory of the Victory Museum, Gorky Park, Tsaritsyno Museum Reserve, VDNKh and other venues.
The Victory Day Parade on Red Square will be broadcast on Poklonnaya Gora at 10:00 a.m., followed by a theater marathon and a concert. A recording of the 1945 Victory Day Parade will be shown in the Muzeon Art Park. And VDNKH will host themed excursions, a quest and a concert featuring songs from the war years. A festive light show will be held here in the evening.
In addition, the Moscow Spring Festival is taking place in the capital from 6 to 12 May. For Victory Day, the organizers have prepared a concert program and thematic workshops at more than 20 venues.
Last year, by May 9th, a new themed train was launched in the Moscow metro. It was dedicated to the feat of the people during the Great Patriotic War.
