- April 25 — Daughter's Day: the history and traditions of the holiday, how to congratulate

Daughter's Day continues a series of family holidays dedicated to close relatives: mothers, fathers, sons, grandparents. A similar day exists in different countries of the world. In Russia, it is celebrated in the spring — on April 25. Izvestia tells about the history and traditions associated with this date of the calendar.
Daughter's Day in 2025 in Russia
The celebration has no official status, and it is quite difficult to say exactly when Daughter's Day began to be celebrated in our country. Presumably, this day began to be celebrated en masse no earlier than 2017, following other countries.
India is considered the ancestor of the holiday. Daughter's Day is celebrated there on the fourth Sunday of September. Initially, the holiday was intended to draw attention to the problems of girls in Indian society and the need to provide them with equal opportunities along with boys. To this end, the first themed postcards were printed in the country for girls with wishes to dream and achieve their goals.
According to another version, the history of the holiday began in the USA. In the early 1990s, the "Let's take our daughters to work" campaign was held here, during which schools taught about various professions for women. Later, National Daughters' Day was celebrated in the United States. It serves as an occasion to emphasize the importance of daughters in the lives of their parents and society.
In addition, the world celebrates International Girls' Day on October 11. The holiday was proclaimed in 2011 by the United Nations (UN) in order to highlight the importance of addressing issues related to gender inequality.
Traditions of celebrating Daughter's Day
Daughter's Day is also needed to remind about issues such as early marriage and abortion, and domestic violence. Therefore, in a number of countries, flash mobs and educational campaigns are held on the day of the holiday, drawing attention to these problems.
In Russia, the event is more often celebrated in the family circle. This is another reason to have fun and informative time with your child. Parents try to please their daughters with gifts and delicious treats.
Dads and moms also share their experiences of growing up, show photos at the same age, talk about what they were like in childhood and adolescence, what they dreamed of and how they coped with various difficulties. All this helps to strengthen the trusting relationship between adults and children.
Daughter's Day on April 25 — how to congratulate
On Daughter's Day, both young and adult daughters are congratulated. The main message of the celebration is the continuity of generations, love and caring for loved ones. Therefore, the best holiday gift will be the attention and time spent together.
Younger girls will surely enjoy going to the cinema, an amusement park, a new doll or a set of children's cosmetics. Older daughters can be given framed photos with vivid childhood memories, such as traveling together, celebrating a New Year or birthday. Such a gift will awaken warm feelings and remind you of the happy childhood years.
For daughters who live in another city, you can record a video message or send a greeting card in messengers. You can also share your congratulations on social networks.
Earlier, Izvestia shared congratulations and postcards on the Day of Brothers and sisters.
