Sincere congratulations on Victory Day: how to write a letter to a soldier

In May, the whole of Russia will celebrate one of the most important dates in the country's history — Victory Day. Every year, Russians honor the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War, as well as honor veterans who made a huge contribution to Russia's victory. Nowadays, you can also express your gratitude and congratulate the soldiers who are in the special operation zone. As part of the Letter to a Soldier campaign, schoolchildren and students can say kind words even to a soldier they don't know. Such letters will be not only good news for the fighters, but also gratitude for the peaceful sky they protect. For more information about the history of Victory Day, as well as how to write a letter to a soldier in the SVO zone, see the Izvestia article.
Victory Day - 2025: the 80th anniversary is celebrated
The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Great Patriotic War began on the territory of the USSR on the morning of June 22, 1941. Millions of Russians volunteered to defend their homeland. Active military operations were conducted for almost four years. The war ended on May 9, 1945, when the act of German surrender was signed. On the same day, the victory was announced to the Soviet people and the establishment of Victory Day by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
In the Soviet Union, every year on May 9, a mournful minute of silence was announced, preceded by the words of the announcer: "We appeal to your heart. To your memory. There is no family that has not been scorched by war grief."
Since 1965, Victory Day has been a day off. In 2024, Russians will rest from Thursday to Sunday, from May 9th to 12th.
Now the celebration of Victory Day on May 9 is taking place all over Russia and is accompanied by fireworks, concerts and various events. Victory Day parades are held in Moscow, Sevastopol and many other cities. It is also considered traditional to lay flowers at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden near the Kremlin Wall. Last year was no exception, Russian President Vladimir Putin did it together with the heads of several CIS countries immediately after the parade.
Also, since 2012, an action called the "Immortal Regiment" has been taking place in Russia and some other countries. On May 9, thousands of people march in a column through the streets of cities, holding photos of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War.
In addition, on the occasion of the anniversary of Izvestia, a special project "80 days to Victory" was launched. It publishes articles published during the war, the full list of which can be found in the electronic archive. A virtual museum dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory has also been created, featuring photographs of the war years and war heroes. Now you can see them, including on media facades in different cities of Russia.
How to write a letter to a soldier happy Victory Day: sample and text
You can write a letter to the soldiers in the SVO zone at any time, but most of the letters come on holidays. For example, many letters arrived on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day.

You can also congratulate the soldiers fighting in the SVO zone on May 9th. It does not matter whether the writer is a relative, friend or acquaintance of the fighter. You can write a letter with words of gratitude and good wishes to any member of your organization, even if the specific name is unknown. The collection of letters or parcels for convenience and efficiency is carried out centrally, however, the methods of sending still differ depending on the recipient.
To send a parcel to a loved one involved in the fighting, you can come to the nearest branch of the Russian Post. In the fields to be filled in, write the recipient's last name, first name and patronymic (if any), his military unit (you can find out from the military himself or at the military enlistment office at the place of conscription) and add "Moscow-400, 103400". The delivery is carried out by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Sending letters and parcels to the CBO area is free of charge, but their weight is limited to 10 kg.
If the letter is sent to a stranger, enter Moscow, Suvorovskaya Square, 2, building 1, Central House of the Russian Army in the "address" column. It is necessary to write a "Letter to a soldier" on the envelope.
There are no strict requirements for the format of the letter, but it is worth starting it with an introduction — to tell about yourself, about your city and give other general information. It is important to remember that soldiers risk their lives every day in a war zone, so we need to wish them good luck, good health and safe return home. They will also be pleased if a postcard or a homemade drawing is attached to the letter.
The military-patriotic campaign "Letter to a Soldier" is supported by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Schoolchildren, college students and pedagogical universities can take part in it by sending a letter to their participants and congratulating them on the upcoming holiday — Victory Day.
Izvestia has prepared examples of what can be written to the military on Victory Day.
