Victory Day - 2025: the 80th anniversary is celebrated

The year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Great Patriotic War began on the territory of the USSR on the morning of June 22, 1941. Millions of Russians volunteered to defend their homeland. Active military operations were conducted for almost four years. The war ended on May 9, 1945, when the act of German surrender was signed. On the same day, the victory was announced to the Soviet people and the establishment of Victory Day by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

In the Soviet Union, every year on May 9, a mournful minute of silence was announced, preceded by the words of the announcer: "We appeal to your heart. To your memory. There is no family that has not been scorched by war grief."

Since 1965, Victory Day has been a day off. In 2024, Russians will rest from Thursday to Sunday, from May 9th to 12th.

Now the celebration of Victory Day on May 9 is taking place all over Russia and is accompanied by fireworks, concerts and various events. Victory Day parades are held in Moscow, Sevastopol and many other cities. It is also considered traditional to lay flowers at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden near the Kremlin Wall. Last year was no exception, Russian President Vladimir Putin did it together with the heads of several CIS countries immediately after the parade.

Also, since 2012, an action called the "Immortal Regiment" has been taking place in Russia and some other countries. On May 9, thousands of people march in a column through the streets of cities, holding photos of their relatives who took part in the Great Patriotic War.

In the fields to be filled in, write the recipient's last name, first name and patronymic (if any), his military unit (you can find out from the military himself or at the military enlistment office at the place of conscription) and add "Moscow-400, 103400". The delivery is carried out by the Russian Ministry of Defense. Sending letters and parcels to the CBO area is free of charge, but their weight is limited to 10 kg.

If the letter is sent to a stranger, enter Moscow, Suvorovskaya Square, 2, building 1, Central House of the Russian Army in the "address" column. It is necessary to write a "Letter to a soldier" on the envelope.

There are no strict requirements for the format of the letter, but it is worth starting it with an introduction — to tell about yourself, about your city and give other general information. It is important to remember that soldiers risk their lives every day in a war zone, so we need to wish them good luck, good health and safe return home. They will also be pleased if a postcard or a homemade drawing is attached to the letter.
