On the last Friday of July, the Day of the System Administrator is celebrated in Russia and other countries of the world. In 2025, this holiday falls on July 25th. Traditionally, Sysadmin's Day is celebrated on the last Friday of July. Ted Kekatos, an American system administrator, is considered to be the founder of the holiday. In 2000, he organized the first such day on the outskirts of Chicago. It was a small picnic attended by his colleagues from a software company.

Other computer scientists also liked the idea, first in the USA, and then in other countries of the world. So Sysadmin's Day has become an international holiday, in which more and more people participate every year.

The tradition has taken root in Russia. The first celebration took place in 2006 in the area of the Vyrki River near Kaluga. At that time, about 350 people attended it. But a few years later, more than 4 thousand sysadmins from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and other countries gathered for the holiday.

This holiday is considered by the masters who manage the computer system and are engaged in its maintenance. In particular, they ensure the operation of a local network and the Internet, websites, databases, equipment and software. On this day, strange toasts can be heard in a close circle: for fast ping and reliable connection, for easy—going users and the absence of lamers - this is what they call "dummies" in sysadmin slang, that is, people who do not know how to use a computer.
