Jokes began to spread in society, and even jokes about blondes were heard from TV screens.

This has led to manifestations of sexism towards blonde women. Their mental abilities began to be belittled, even if the blonde lady had a good education and worked in a serious position. Cases of disrespect from men have become more frequent, and blondes have begun to encounter obstacles to their career advancement.

Then the girls formed a social movement in defense of the rights of fair-haired women. They even have their own organization, the International Blonde Association.

Women also started talking about the holiday, designed to combat an unfair stereotype. For the first time, the celebrations took place in July 2001, when the American comedy Legally Blonde, about a girl who defied public opinion, was released.

And in 2003, the association appealed to UNESCO, calling for bringing the holiday to the international level. And although not all members of the association supported the initiative, the celebration gained popularity, and its traditions began to spread around the world. The holiday was decided to be celebrated on May 31, the day after the International Day of Feminism. In 2006, the first celebrations were held in Russia.
