On Tuesday, June 10, the Candle of Memory campaign officially began in Russia. It is dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Mourning, which takes place on June 22 — the anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. You can join the promotion in an online format: on the Day of memory website. In Russia, everyone will be able to light their own virtual candle. The promotion will last until June 22, 2025.

All lit candles are displayed on the counter, you can keep track of how many candles were lit in a particular region. You can also view the memoirs of veterans and eyewitnesses of the war on the site — more than 60 video interviews for which heroes were searched all over Russia. As part of the campaign, you can join various projects to help veterans.

The main candle of memory will be lit in the capital's Yelokhovskaya Cathedral on the eve of the memorable date. It was here that the first liturgy for the future Great Victory took place in 1941.

During the 1941-1945 fighting in the USSR, at least 27 million people died. Lit candles symbolize that Russians remember everyone who has passed away.

On June 22, at noon, namely at 12:15, the All-Russian minute of silence will be held.

We bring to the attention of readers a special project of Izvestia dedicated to the feat of peaceful people, each of whom won on his front during the Second World War: "In the shadow of heroes."
